{"id":12,"date":"2015-03-23T12:46:19","date_gmt":"2015-03-23T12:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pinnacleeg.com\/iso\/2008\/09\/02\/integrated-management-system\/"},"modified":"2015-04-08T16:28:47","modified_gmt":"2015-04-08T16:28:47","slug":"integrated-management-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.pinnacleeg.com\/iso\/integrated-management-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Integrated Management System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the &#8220;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinnacleeg.com\/shp-integrated-management-systems.php\/page\/services\/service\/integrated-management-systems\">Integrated Management System &#8211; Lean BOS<\/a><\/em>&#8221; page of our website I discuss the emerging trend in and demand for integrating quality, environmental, health &amp; safety, regulatory, and business improvement objectives into a single business operating system (BOS).\u00a0 On this page I state that <em>&#8220;today&#8217;s integration objectives are generally clear: companies want a management system that seamlessly addresses the requirements of multiple management system standards while serving as the foundation for continual improvement and organizational excellence.&#8221;<\/em> In other words,\u00a0 modern integrated management systems blend ISO 9001, TS 16949, AS9100, TL 9000, ISO 13485, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 with regulatory requirements and improvement initiatives like TQM, Lean, and Six Sigma.<\/p>\n<p>As always, large and more progressive companies are the vanguard in this effort.\u00a0 Some succeed better than others (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinnacleeg.com\/iso\/improvement-intiatives-are-like-diets\/\">Improvement Initiatives Are Like Diets<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinnacleeg.com\/iso\/iso-9001-q-a\/\">ISO 9001 Q&amp;A<\/a>).\u00a0 What troubles me, however, is that small and mid-sized companies are reluctant to even entertain the idea of an integrated management system (or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinnacleeg.com\/shp-integrated-management-systems.php\/page\/services\/service\/integrated-management-systems#leanbos\"><em>Lean BOS<\/em><\/a>) because they assume that it is too complex, too time consuming, and too expensive for them.\u00a0 In my experience this is typically an uninformed opinion.\u00a0 When one considers that small and mid-sized companies also deal with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>finding and keeping customers,<\/li>\n<li>understanding and managing customer requirements and audits,<\/li>\n<li>resolving customer complaints,<\/li>\n<li>employee safety, training, competence, satisfaction, and retention,<\/li>\n<li>process and\/or product improvement and optimization,<\/li>\n<li>corrective and preventive action,<\/li>\n<li>selecting and managing vendors and purchased items,<\/li>\n<li>key performance indicators and key metrics,<\/li>\n<li>environmental impact, and<\/li>\n<li>regulatory compliance,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>then the effort and cost of an integrated management system become a sound business investment.\u00a0\u00a0 I understand that investing in organizational development during uncertain economic times is difficult.\u00a0 But when considering increasing global competition and rising costs, can small and mid sized companies really afford not to invest?
